Within the Poles
By Tony DeLorger © 2012
Outside the rain is constant,
tempered only by the struggling sun,
edging clouds aside,
to exude its life-giving radiance.
Inside, in the warmth of shelter,
my mind wanders,
skipping across landscapes of unknown origin,
pursuing elusive thoughts of content,
while the travesty of life’s serenity,
graces my hopes,
and entices my naivety to ignore
the fear and malice that surrounds me.
My world is at peace,
flowing like a trickling stream,
drawing closer, ever-closer to the source,
time like a marker,
reminding us all we have limits,
and stagnation steers not a course.
I try to hold fast to my peaceful mind,
thoughts of love and compassion,
my anchor to earthly plight,
yet a world of ill-intent keeps pounding on my door,
reminding me that balance I must accept.
Outside, the rain subsides,
the sun, with chest stuck out,
imbues life and momentarily placates
the isolation of those wanting,
those caught in the torrents of malcontents.
My mind wanders,
seeking memories of blissful life,
the burden of awareness,
ever-present.
Here I am, between the poles,
accepting, hoping, giving.

Peace is elusive, it's supposed to be. You have listed the only things we can do, accept, hope and give, and nothing more.
Thank you, you have brought me back to a place that was elusive.
This is beautiful, Tony...I envy the peace that you express here. My state of mind lately has been the other you mention: malcontent. Beautiful images.
it's a good thing that we have to be contented on these three things...but the ego unless satisfied will keep striving for more...great hub as always Tony...
