Where I have been

Rhyme and metre are important aspects of poetry, and technically there are so many variations. For those interested in the technical, this poem, like many of my processes, represents experimental usage of multiple formulas that can disrupt yet sometimes add another dimension to the feeling of the work. The deliberate and subtle disruption of flow in this work is done to add to the feeling and meaning of the words. Hope you enjoy it.
Where I have been
By Tony DeLorger © 2012
Slippers by the door,
sheets turned out in disarray,
crumpled clothing on the floor,
surroundings fall in slow decay.
A watch stands alone,
by a clock in silent count,
a dog-eared page marks the known,
downturned book splayed out.
Pillows imbedded by a body missing,
socks like fluffy balls by bed amount,
in distance sounds a kettle hissing,
anticipation in lost account.
My cat is whining,
perhaps pining for a master’s shadow,
he sits in waiting for a hand fading,
that quells his hunger,
and soothes the thunder.
Unfinished words on computers screen,
images etched yet can’t redeem,
thoughts released in fanciful dream,
the puzzle yet to solve.
Where I’ve been and what I’ve done,
is empty when I’m removed like silken glove,
image real yet cloaked in mist,
if taken does my world desist.
Remnants found of where I’ve been,
are empty proof of existence,
but what I write preserves my mind,
despite my unyielding persistence.
