The Meeting of Minds, T1 and T2
By Tony DeLorger © 2012
What is the point of conversation,
if not to understand,
words like gifts go back and forth,
until a consensus stands.
Each word like an elusive butterfly,
extracting nectar pure,
painting dazzling images,
in mind a meaning sure.
But sometimes T1 and T2,
lost for names and words,
dip into the realm of wordless connect,
and still know each other true.
It goes like this...
“I saw that film yesterday,
you know the one, with what’s his name in it;
he’s married to that gorgeous chick, the model,
the one with the director uncle.”
‘Oh yeah, what’s it called, something about boats?”
“That’s the one. Well apparently his marriage is cactus,
been seeing that girl, what’s her name,
looks like that girl from the Pepsi ad,
the one who was on that model show,
what was it called?”
“Yeah, didn’t she have a miscarriage to that soap star,
you know the one with the limp.”
“Hadn’t heard that.”
“So what was the film like?”
“Shit”
“...Oh”
Each word delicate and well placed,
eloquent in delivery,
profound in meaning and message,
accurate in detail with liberty.
I often wonder with glee,
how either of us can be,
understanding the nonsense said,
and somehow relating instead.
The meeting of two minds,
is perhaps an overstatement,
more like half a mind each,
together in containment.
