Each Moment
By Tony DeLorger © 2012
Each step, each sigh, closer to you,
the tide transfixed by moon, is still, undecided,
while you wait for that point of no return,
that one moment when your wants exceed your fear.
Each breath, each touch, closer to you,
while you hold back, just a little,
to save yourself in your darkest dream,
that point when hearts can be lost,
and pain delivers us to a familiar end.
I love you is not an entanglement,
just the rare gift of selflessness,
unafraid words for some, encumbrance for the tainted,
the beginning of lies and hurt of disappointment.
Each second, each day that passes,
gives credence to commitment, to intention,
yet life cannot be certain, outcomes always in contention,
but what we want never follows out of what we fear.
Surely love is a gift of freedom,
and risk is life’s acceptance
and having faith in what is best for us,
what we deserve in heart and soul.
Without risk there is no reward, no doors opening,
no joy for an open heart veiled in fear.
Each step, each moment is letting go,
releasing realities that have in the past failed you,
given reason for fear,
and the false knowledge of expected outcomes.
Each moment brings us closer to freedom,
closer to accepting control,
and to the awareness of what we want.
Each falter brings us to question ourselves,
to consider our chains and decide
on a life of freedom and love,
or the safety of stagnation.

WOW!!! feel it very deep inside, I picked the "a life of freedom and love" over " the safety of stagnation". Is better live been honest with our heart. Full field the moment with every touch and breath until the time comes.
Lovely!!!
I had to read this again.. what a great poem. debbie
The last line really resonated with me:
"Each falter brings us to question ourselves,
to consider our chains and decide
on a life of freedom and love,
or the safety of stagnation."
Beautiful and thought provoking. It took me to thinking of Khalil Gibran's "The Prophet." Thank you for sharing your gift with us.
"I love you is not an entanglement,
just the rare gift of selflessness," loved these lines; absolutely beautiful poem...
